Used Airplanes: How Not to Lose a Fortune - Subscribe to AVweb
In the market for a used airplane? Do yourself and your wallet a solid and look beyond the basics of engine health. With airplanes still selling at premium prices and too many pre-buy inspections getting shortchanged, plenty of owners are shelling out thousands of dollars for unexpected repairs and replacement accessories that could have been negotiated before handing over a big check.

Worth the Squeeze? - Subscribe to Savvy Aviation
The FAA imposes a lot more burdens on owners of certificated aircraft than they do on owners of experimental amateur-built (E-AB) aircraft. Certificated aircraft require an IA to inspect and bless them every 12 months, may only use FAA-approved parts, and any major alteration requires FAA-approved data (usually an STC) and IA blessing. Is the safety benefit of certificated aircraft worth the additional regulatory burden?

He shows where he uses the firewall sealant (see part number below). Then he takes us to his workbench where he demonstrates the shortcuts to speed up the nutplate installation process.

Airplane Hangar Foam Insulation Application and Paint - Plus Apartment Redo! - Subscribe to VansAircraftBuilders.com
I had foam insulation installed in my hangar. This foam conforms to the shape of the hangar interior walls as it dries, and almost looks like regular texture you would see in a home with sheetrock walls. It dries within minutes and is paintable in the same day. It also seals the entire hangar, preventing bugs from getting in. @Vansaircraftbuilders #Vansaircraft

Van's Aircraft Blue Protective Film Removal - Hair Dryer Experiment - VansAircraftBuilders.com
No. We're not recommending the use of a hair dryer on your RV Project. Someone mentioned this idea to us and we wanted to see if a Hair Dryer would make it easier to remove the blue protective film that comes with all Van's Aircraft RV. See what you think.

Pop Riveting in Tight Places - VansAircraftBuilders.com
The majority of riveting on the RV-12iS is done with the LP4-3 Pop Rivet. Most go in very easily, but some require a great trick from Van's, an angled wedge that allows the installation of a Pop Rivet in situations where the pop rivet gun barrel is too large to use perpendicular to a surface.
