Burley Airport is a small airport that is pretty desolate... At least the times that we've gone. What makes it a great place to fly? Well, for starters, it was part of the original airmail route through Idaho. Secondly, you can walk to Stokes Fresh Food Market, just .6 mile away. Here you can get excellent sandwiches and there's a place to eat upstairs, overlooking the grocery store. We love to take a flight and walk to good food. There's also other restaurants within walking distance. While BYI isn't fancy, it makes for a fun trip on a lovely day!
Here's some history of BYI: The Burley Airport was dedicated on the 4th of July 1930. It is located right on a bend just off the Snake River. It is one of the most stunning airports to fly into in Southern Idaho. The Airport rests just on the east side town but is still close enough to downtown that pilots can walk in for a bite to eat.
In late October of 2002 the airport was rededicated Burley J R Jack Simplot Airport. - Submitted by T.L. Zick
