Millville Municipal Airport, originally dubbed America's First Defense Airport, was dedicated in 1941 under the original name Millville Army Air Field and served as a gunnery school for fighter pilots during WWII. It become home to First Air Force. Training began with the P-40F Warhawk, but quickly transitioned to what Millville is most known for: The P-47 Thunderbolt. During the fields' three years existence, thousands of soldiers and civilians served here, with 1,500 pilots receiving advanced training in the P-47 Thunderbolt. Millville has a lot to offer, beginning right at the field:
Verna's Flightline Diner to feed your tummy after a long flight, two FBO's, and of course the Millville Army Air Field Museum. Right next to the field is the new Motorsports park for your 4-wheeling and cycling needs. A few miles away is the heart of Millville, where you'll find art galleries, restaurants, shoppes, and the beautifully rebuilt Levoy Theater featuring local theatre as well as touring productions. The South Jersey region is also great for hunting and fishing. Millville Municipal Airport is also home to the annual Wheels Wings Car and Airshow, featuring the US Air Force Thunderbirds! 2015 will be on May 9th and 10th.
